Narcissist...

I was sat in reception at Hull's Guildhall (which houses the council chambers and lots of council meeting rooms, offices and staff) and, stood in front of me, there was a man totally absorbed in a back page story in the Hull Daily Mail about Adam Pearson, the city's football club's chairman. He was scrutinising every column inch, almost lifting the print off the page, and, I noticed, he kept smiling to himself. Then he turned around. And I realised it was Adam Pearson, and he'd been lost and caught-up in a beautiful narcissistic moment.

NaNoWriMo started yesterday. I might call myself a writer, when I remember, but I'm not a novelist. So, this is a challenge. I've started well - the Day One total was 1,724 words (the daily target is 1,667 words). I've decided to be a bit more free form and stream of consciousness than I have been with the plays of late - very little planning, just a sketchy outline, absolutely no idea what might happen along the way. When I was telling M about the story yesterday, I summarised it thus:

Stray is the tale of a dog, a man and a dog, and a boy and a dog. They are three different dogs. And it's in the style of the Japanese fiction I adore following a mid-air collision with social realism.
So, I have 30 days to write 50,000 words, Which is more of a novella, really, than a novel, but I didn't set the rules. If I get to 50,000 words then NaNoWriMo add me to their hallowed Winner’s Page, and give me a winner’s certificate and a web icon. Oh, is that all? Why am I doing this to myself???

Nice tale about Mr Pearson, and from what I've heard from close personal staff of the man, he's not easy to work for.

Hi Dave, 50000 words is impressive enough! Best of luck, you're either brave or made, take your pick!

Always remember to proof read your work, though. If i'd proof read my last comment I wouldn't have implied that you belong to a gangster family...
