Media whore...

Interviewed by the Yorkshire Post this morning re Rank and the return of Sully. It proved to be a nice break from writing the outline and it was nice to talk about being 'a writer' with the fruits of my labour sitting right in front of me on the laptop screen. Yesterday, as well as the tv business, I spoke to my old pal Charlie at the York Press and he seemed very enthusiastic about the whole Rank shindig. Like a lot of other people I've spoken to he had no idea of the Rank/Hull connection. So a flurry of interest, which adds a bit of pressure knowing that word is spreading but is, at the same time, very comforting. Nothing from my old muckers at the HDM, though, which is peculiar to say the least. They seem to be under the impression that a hefty Arts Council grant for a project about a local legend isn't news. Oh well, they must hate me.
Anyway, the self-imposed deadline on the lifeboat front has been met. I now have a very decent story outline that makes sense and that I'm relatively happy with, some in-depth character descriptions and a rough scene-by-scene breakdown. It will all change, no doubt, once the creative juices start firing me in all directions, but the theatre must have what it is paying me for. The real deadline for this document isn't actually until January 16. So plenty of time to play with it further and shift things around. I'm planning on looking at it again tomorrow, to flesh out the scenes a tad, add some more meat to the bone. And then, whoopee, I have to turn my attention to a tax return.

Listening: Earth, Wind & Fire - Boogie Wonderland.

let's face it the HDM is an appalling rag, a joke, children of 10 could pick the stories to pieces and rewrite them in a more appropriate way (perhaps not children from Hull itself, obviously)and as for Boogie Wonderland, I'm having visions of you in gold lame flares, jiving around your living room.

Hey man, couldn't agree more with Baz's comments. Although you have made it into this week's Sadvertisers, ranging from a lofty page 14 to a paltry 28 (Holderness). I couldn't be arsed to rewrite the press release (although I took out the false returns) but had some fun with the captions: Uptown Top Rank-ing and Hull Born and Breadmaker, they were. Chortle.

Well, if you'd bring me the gold lame flares back Bazza I can get on with it! Cheers for the directions, btw, that place looks like an incredible location to wander around for a few hours.
