Bye bye building...

Hull's skyline is pretty flat and only a handful of buildings stand out. Yet here's another one being systematically destroyed without so much as a whimper from the public:

Is that the old Spillers building? my dad used to work there. I guess unless you actually drive past it you wouldn't know they were knocking it down (in order to make whimpering noises) It is sad though.

If that was Manchester, it would be trendy flats by now. In Newcastle an art gallery.

Tis indeed, Bazza. I realised the diggers had moved in as I wobbled back home via the very glamorous route that leads from the Whalebone Inn to my house. I'd heard that it was going to go via controlled explosion but they appear to be resorting to ye olde fashioned method of nibbling bits of it away until it's all gone (unless, that is, it's merely being prepared for a grander exit). A real shame, I think, that these iconic buildings of a defunct but once glorious industry just fade away here, unlike similar places in the city's you cite, Stephen. Well done Hull City Council. And people, like me, I suppose, for not complaining and making a big song and dance when I first heard the rumours it was going to go.
