There was nothing else for it. I was feeling down, work was boring me to death, a house we wanted to go and have a look at has been sold. So I bought a guide to becoming a Samurai warrior. Hagakure is 'the most influential of all samurai treatises ever written', according to Professor Ivan Morris. I'm not so keen on the final route that the Way of the Samurai takes a warrior. But this book might contain some nifty hints and tips to get me through life. I also picked up the Kenneth Williams Diaries. Talk about bizarre juxtapositions. Still, as Yamamoto Tsunetomo tells me, 'It is good to carry some powdered rouge in one's sleeve'. And that's just lesson the one.

Watching: Metropolis (the Taro Rin anime version).
